Dental and oral examination

Dental and oral examinations are crucial because they help identify and prevent pain, infections, and other health issues that can arise from untreated dental problems. Regular check-ups ensure your pet’s teeth and gums stay healthy, contributing to their overall well-being, quality of life and longevity.

Dental radiography

Dental radiography allows vets to see beneath the gum line, detecting hidden issues like tooth resorptions, fractures or infections. Detailed dental radiographs are essential for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment, ensuring your pet’s dental health is fully and correctly assessed and protected. Dental radiography provides much higher detail than conventional overview radiographs of the head and is the method of choice in veterinary dentistry. Computed tomography (CT) is used in complex cases where radiographs are not sufficient.

Management of periodontal diseases

Periodontal disease is a common issue in dogs and cats, caused by plaque build-up that leads to gum inflammation, infection and potential tooth loss. Approximately 80% of dogs and 70% of cats are affected by this condition by the age of 3 years, with the risk increasing as they age. Smaller breeds are particularly susceptible due to the structure of their teeth and jaws. Untreated, periodontal disease can cause pain, decreased quality of life and impact overall health. Effective management includes regular dental cleanings, proper home care and professional treatment as soon as issues occur. Early detection and consistent dental care are essential to preventing serious periodontal issues.

Endodontic treatment

Endodontic diseases in dogs and cats involve tissues within the tooth, such as pulp infections or fractures exposing the pulp. These conditions can cause severe pain, swelling, infection, tooth loss and other complications if left untreated. Management includes diagnosing the problem as early as possible, dental radiographs, root canal treatments to save the tooth or extraction, if necessary. Quick action and professional care are crucial to alleviate pain and maintain your pet's oral health.

Restorative dentistry

Restorative dentistry involves repairing damaged teeth using various techniques. This includes filling cavities, restoring of teeth using composite materials, applying bonding sealers to protect and strength then the tooth and placing crowns or performing root canal treatments when necessary. These treatments help preserve the affected teeth, alleviate pain and maintain your pet’s ability to eat, play and enjoy a good quality of life.

Preventive dentistry

Preventive dentistry in dogs and cats aims to avoid dental issues before they develop. This includes regular cleanings, professional dental exams and applying sealants to protect teeth and plaque build-up. Routine home care, such as brushing the teeth and using dental treats, complements these efforts by reducing the risk of periodontal disease and other dental problems. Effective preventive care helps maintain your pet’s Oral health, preventing pain and ensuring a better quality of life.

Pediatric dentistry

In veterinary dentistry, young patients-puppies and kittens require special attention due to their developing teeth and jaws. Pediatric dental care focuses on monitoring the growth of teeth, identifying early signs of dental issues and addressing problems such as retained baby teeth, misalignments, malocclusions, dentigerous cysts, defects of the palate and others. Early dental check-ups are crucial for ensuring proper development and preventing future dental complications. Early intervention and preventive measures help ensure that young pets grow into healthy adults with strong, correctly developed, healthy teeth.

Feline dentistry

Cats have unique dental needs and are prone to specific issues, such as tooth resorption, gingivitis and periodontal disease. Cats often hide pain, making early detection of dental problems challenging. Proper dental care helps prevent and manage these conditions, which can otherwise lead to severe discomfort and impact their general health. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are essential to maintain your cat's oral health, ensuring they live a comfortable, healthy and pain-free life.
